I don't typically lug around an SLR and have been using a Cannon G10 for around a year and a half. It is a bit heavier than most point and shoot cameras, but has all of the manual control one can hope for in a non-SLR. That said, there are definitely images I don't get because I'm tied to a point and shoot. It's a great combination of weight, quality, functionality and portability! Pretty birds -- a bit skittish, but very pretty. Also, for what it's worth, I didn't find what I was looking for (I think I was having too much fun to think about stuff like that!) and still feel like a dolt for bombing the PCT test.
